Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

What is coaching?

It is a partnership between client and coach designed to be thought provoking and creative. Coaching helps clients reach their personal and professional goals. Individuals or groups focus on the skills and actions needed to produce the results they desire, with support and accountability provided by your coach.

How is coaching different than counselling?

Coaching is set in the present and future. It is action oriented and forward moving. The only time a coach will go into the past is to find examples of when something has worked for you. Coaching is about being whole, complete, creative and resourceful, not about dysfunction or past hurts.

What kind of things do people seek coaching for?

  • Desire for balance in work and life
  • To move forward or get un stuck
  • To understand yourself better
  • To get motivated
  • Achieve clarity on particular issues
  • Identify your strengths
  • To become more organized
  • Discover what gives you energy
  • To set and reach personal and professional goals

What is the process?

In most cases coaching is done over the phone. This saves time and money and allows for disclosure. It also means location is not an obstacle, no matter where you are in North America.

You can expect to be asked thought provoking questions, to participate in relevant exercises, commit to action and be held accountable in a way that facilitates your desired outcomes.

How much does it cost?

This depends on the number of sessions per month, basically between $180 and $320 per month.

Will my insurance pay for coaching?

Generally no. However, some clients have flexible spending accounts, or FSAs. These let you put aside pre-tax dollars for health-care expenses not covered by your insurance.

How much time does it take?

This depends on the set of circumstances that have brought you to coaching.
The average client stays with a coach 6 months to one year.
